Problem Statement

Everyday millions of people use public transport to travel to work or school. Normally the bus runs on a fixed schedule, however usually there is some delay caused due to peak traffic conditions in the office hours. If the bus runs every 30 mins or more then getting to the bus stop in time can become top priority.

There are a number of chores one performs while getting ready in the morning. So a simple act of taking the phone, finding the right app and getting the latest schedule for their bus can be burdensome.

Solution

Voice interface can fill the gap here by providing useful information without hindering the user’s morning schedule. A user can ask the assistant to track the bus number and get information on the latest arrival times. There are multiple scenarios that should be handled by the assistant.

Scenario 1: User is almost ready to leave and asks the assistant about the current status of the bus that he intends to catch. Assistant would Inform the user of arrival times of next 2 buses arriving at the stop. It would also inform when to leave in order to catch it.

Scenario 2: User sets a reminder to catch a bus at a fixed time and assistant would inform the user automatically when it’s time to leave by tracking the real-time schedule of the bus.

Scenario 1

Mark is getting ready for a meeting at 9:00 am. He wants to make sure that he catches the bus by 8:20 am so that he could reach the office by 8:50 am.

Scenario 2

Mark wants to attend a seminar tomorrow at 6 pm in Redmond. He asks the assistant which bus to take from his office and when to leave in order to arrive on time.
